π New ACMA Rules β 30 June 2026
- Standardised coverage maps are now mandatory. All carriers must use the same four categories: good, moderate, basic, and no coverage (below -115dBm).
- Telstra's map lost ~1 million sq km. No towers were switched off β the measurement standard changed. Areas that previously showed marginal signal are now classed as no coverage.
- Optus and Vodafone maps changed far less, narrowing the perceived coverage gap between carriers.
Network Outage Registers β New ACMA Requirement
Under the new ACMA rules, every mobile network operator must publish a public register of resolved major and significant outages, including the location, cause, duration, and services affected. This is the first time consumers can directly compare network reliability track records.
