Ergon Energy is a 100% Queensland Government-owned entity, operating as a subsidiary of Energy Queensland Limited (established 2016). Formed in 1999 from six regional Queensland electricity boards. In 2007, the Queensland Government sold Ergon's contestable retail customers (~50,000) to AGL, but Ergon continued as the default provider for regional Queensland. It remains legislatively required to sell electricity at government-set Notified Prices, overseen by the Queensland Competition Authority.

Generation Assets

Minimal direct generation. Owns and operates the Barcaldine gas-fired power station in central Queensland and 33 stand-alone power stations for remote communities not connected to the main grid. Primarily a distribution and retail utility, not a generator.
