OVO Energy entered Australia in 2019 with a digital-first platform backed by the UK's OVO Group and its Kaluza smart energy technology. It offered 100% GreenPower options. Following acquisition by AGL, customer accounts were transferred to AGL from mid-2025. OVO no longer has independent retail operations in Australia.

Australian Ownership

Originally the Australian arm of UK-based OVO Group Ltd (founded 2009 by Stephen Fitzpatrick). AGL Energy acquired OVO Energy Australia in H2 FY2024. In December 2024, OVO applied to the AER to surrender its electricity and gas retailer authorisations, with customer accounts transferring to AGL by mid-2025.
