Alinta Energy is a major electricity and gas retailer and generator, serving approximately 1.1 million accounts across Australia and New Zealand. It grew from its WA gas roots into a national player and is the principal partner of the Australian Men's Cricket Team. Alinta is foreign-owned (currently Hong Kong-based, transitioning to Singapore-based ownership). Its GreenPower offerings are limited to large business customers only. Alinta Energy traces its roots to the 1950s as the state-owned gas utility in Western Australia. It was privatised in 1998 and has undergone multiple ownership changes. In 2017, Hong Kong's Chow Tai Fook Enterprises (CTFE) acquired Alinta for over A$4 billion. In December 2025, Singapore state-owned Sembcorp Industries announced it would acquire Alinta from CTFE for an enterprise value of A$6.5 billion, including the Loy Yang B coal station (1,200 MW).
Generation Assets
Post-Pilbara sale (Oct 2023) ~1,957 MW owned and contracted, plus Loy Yang B (1,200 MW, Victoria coal — 20% of Victoria's electricity) owned via parent. Portfolio includes: Pinjarra and Wagerup gas (WA), Yandin Wind Farm (WA), Braemar gas (QLD), Bairnsdale gas (VIC), and Glenbrook (NZ). Former coal stations (Playford A, B, Northern in SA) closed 2016.

Regulatory Issues
AER issued a record 15 infringement notices to Alinta totaling $1.089 million for alleged mishandling of Centrepay payments to welfare recipients. Separately, Alinta paid $200,000 (10 infringement notices) for breaches of life support obligations.
